Energy From Waste

We’ve enjoyed consistent success winning recycling and Energy from Waste projects.  The durability of metal roof and wall cladding makes it ideal for these kinds of applications and one of the biggest we’ve been involved with was the North East Energy Recovery Centre (NEERC).  This huge development is being constructed next to the existing Teesside Energy from Waste plant and features nearly 7,000m2 of trapezoidal profile on the roof in goosewing grey; with 11,000m2 of MW5 wall cladding in Goosewing Grey, Solent Blue and Petra Red.  The pre-finished steel used to manufacture the external sheets was Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra and the systems installed were a mix of ElitePlus systems (with a 25 year system guarantee) and single skin cladding.  Euroclad installer Roofdec installed the extensive roofing and cladding for main contractor John Sisk & Son.  Construction began in early 2011, and the huge new facility is nearing completion.

NEERC is expected to be capable of handling up to 190,000 tonnes of waste per year. This waste will be burned to generate electricity for the National Grid and cogenerate to provide heat for local industries in the form of steam.  It will have two processing lines, capable of generating 21 MW of electricity, enough to provide for 37,500 homes.  This means that NEERC and the existing Teesside Energy from Waste plant combined will burn 640,000 tonnes of waste annually, with over 50 MW of electricity generated.  This will make Teesside the largest operational Energy from Waste centre in the UK outside of London.

For Coffee Lovers

Nobody loves a cup of coffee more than us; and it was a pleasure to be associated with the nation’s favourite coffee shop when Vieo was chosen for the dramatic roof and walls of Costa Coffee’s latest store.  Despite a challenging build MA Witcombe successfully installed the Vieo sheets on behalf of PDR Construction, and the commitment shown by all those involved resulted in a great-looking building.  The Vieo roof and walls were manufactured from Anthracite-coloured Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra and this was the first Costa Coffee store that we’ve supplied.

Costa’s mission has always been to save the world from mediocre coffee. Back in 1971 most people thought this was a noble yet hopelessly unachievable task. But every cup of our Mocha Italia blend created since then has helped in their quest. With this latest coffee shop they are another step closer to a world where bland, average coffee, as well as bland, average store design, is consigned to history.

Modern Coastal Building

A recently completed redevelopment on a south coast peninsula is attracting serious media attention*. Sandbanks Yacht Club’s original aging property has been replaced with nine new houses together with restaurants, a boatyard and a gym.  Developers Roundset Westingly have already completed three waterfront properties that quickly became iconic features of Poole Harbour, complementing their stunning location in every aspect of modern detail and design.

Cladding contractors T. A. Colbourne Limited installed Vieo on the roof and walls, as well as a purpose-designed plank for the balconies; all manufactured from VieoZinc, an aluminium substrate with a zinc-rich coating that looks and weathers the same as zinc. Tom Colbourne, Managing Director of T. A. Colbourne Limited commented: “It was an exciting and innovative project and I congratulate our team on rising to the challenge of accurately reflecting the architectural intent. Vieo was the architects perfect choice of product to achieve such an intricate, high quality finish”.  Not all the houses are sold and the waterfront properties are currently being marketed for £4.25m!
