OLYMPIC GAG REMOVED

A gagging order preventing businesses which helped build London’s Olympics venues from promoting their involvement in the 2012 games has been lifted after the government paid the British Olympic Association £2m.  It gives us the opportunity to talk about our involvement with construction at the Olympic Park; namely the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), the Main Press Centre (MPC) and the iconic Olympic Stadium.

We manufactured around 4,500m2 of LINEAR 2 rainscreen facades in aluminium composite material (ACM) for the Olympic stadium. The panels were 7.6m in length, longer than any that have ever been produced using ACM, and the vertical hook-on panels were fixed at a 40° incline, which results in the panels being closer to the steelwork at the bottom than at the top.

The roof of the IBC posed a different set of challenges. With a roof area of 27,000m2 and a requirement to manufacture 77m continuous length sheets directly onto the roof we were able to satisfy these requirements by deploying our mobile SF500 manufacturing unit. A fully tested lifting rig and remote control production meant that secret fix SF500 sheets could be rollformed at the building’s eaves in continuous lengths, directly onto the roof.

The MPC featured Euroclad secret fix roof and profiled walls, manufactured from Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra®.  The acoustic performance of the cladding and roofing systems on the IBC and MPC were critical and determined the selection of the Euroclad Elite 3 build up for both roofs and bespoke Elite 51 cladding system on the walls. Euroclad undertook extensive acoustic testing to reduce low frequency noise through the construction, and included areas of acoustic damping membranes as well as testing ‘through wall’ constructions complete with internal stud walls.

Countdown to Ecobuild

ExCeL, London, Tuesday 5th – Thursday 7th March 2013

We’re very excited to be exhibiting at Ecobuild again and preparations are well underway for the biggest construction event in the UK.  We’re looking forward to showcasing our products and telling the industry about our sustainable ethos; from responsible sourcing to Environmental Product Declarations and Confidex Sustain®, exclusively from Tata Steel.

If you’ve registered for Ecobuild come and visit us at stand N522.  If you haven’t registered, then you can register for free at www.ecobuild.co.uk

Ecobuild is attended by the most influential individuals and organisations in design and construction. Since its launch in 2005, it has grown to become the largest construction event of any kind in the UK and the biggest event in the world for sustainable design, construction and the built environment.
